Up-Cycled Makeup/Cosmetic Stand 49 comments

This was a craft moment making an Up-cycled Makeup Stand, my craft projects
come sporadically these days but I love when they do,
I have so many crafting supplies I could stay busy for a years, lol!
My-Makeup-Tray1As I visit Pinterest, (a habit I have) Im sure others do too, I found some pretty makeup organizing ideas and remember finding a book at the library that was full of ideas using dishes you already have at home to make serving trays and the like with just hot glue. Or if you want it to be permanent you could use UV6800. I wish I could find that book again, that was about 9 years ago.

You can actually make temporary serving trays, then put them in the sink with hot water
and remove the hot glue, put them away for another day and creative moment when you need something fun or pretty.

My inspiration came from photos on Pinterest

Stacking Jewelry TrayStyle Me Pretty // This stacking tray was made with laminate floral plates and 2 candlesticks.
So simply but elegant. This one as you an see if for jewelry. Crafivity Designs Kate-Spade-Inspired-Jewelry-Tray A fun idea that comes from Craftivity Designs for a simple and inexpensive jewelry tray
inspired by none other than…Kate Spade with all the cute plates they create. Confession of Serial Do-it-Yourselfer Jewelry-Tower-Before-and-AfterConfession of Serial Do-it-Yourselfer Making the jewelry tower. with thrift store cups,
saucers and plates including some candlesticks for the pedestals.Divider sze0g An Oh My Heartsie Girl Creation
Oh My Heartsie Makeup Tray 3 I went to the thrift store and found 3 plates and 2 glasses, but when I got home and started working and with the space, I had to use on my desk, I decided on just using 2 plates with the one wine glass.  To have more surface area on the bottom plate, I set the wine glass to the back.
This way I have access on the bottom for larger items.

The project took me all of 5 minutes, once my hot glue gun was heated. If you would want your pieces to be more permanent you could use an art glue like E6000 Craft Adhesive, 3.7 Fluid Ounces (Affiliate Link) also available in craft stores.
Oh My Heartsie Makeup Tray 2
I have seen so many great ideas but I wanted something simple and elegant at the same time.
My Makeup Tray1
There are so many possibilities with glass plates, wine glasses, candlesticks, bottles, cups, dishes and plates. They can be white, clear, patterned, faux silver platters or any combination including wood of course or all the new tinware you can find.

I have seen the cutest serving trays made stacking plates and cups for parties that are disposable.  I would love to see polka dot dishes made into a tiered stand. The possibilities are endless!! It would be great for creating one for cupcakes or petit fours or small desserts for parties or BBQ’s. Anything that you can stack and that would be stable could work!! But for me it was a makeup tray!!!

What dishes do you have you could use right now to create something fun.
All you need are a few dishes, odd wine glass and a hot glue gun and or the the E6000 230010 Craft Adhesive for a permanent cement

There are so many possibilities you can see in the Pinterest Board. Use melamine dishes, summer prints, or even at the holidays very inexpensive plastic-ware could be used. Leave it to your imagination, what would you create?

Follow Vanessa Vander Pol's board 3 Tier Trays on Pinterest.

Have you seen these kinds of serving/stands created?
What kind of ideas do you have?

I entered the Craft Challenge and added this project to the Craft Challenge over at Redoit Yourself Inspirations

Hi Misha, thank you, I think I might try some others too, they can always be taken apart. If I had many of them, they would be hard to store, so taking them a part is great, use for a while, whn you get tired of it, take it a part, use different plates, etc and recreate. Thanks for coming by!

Hi, I love this idea, it makes your dresser look so pretty this way if you put on your makeup in your bedroom! I usually have mine in a makeup bag in a drawer in the bathroom. I saw it on best of the weekend.

I have never seen such a thing before but this is the neatest idea. I would have never thought of something like this and I love to see glass being used. I just have something for clear glass whether it is colored or not I just have something for glass that you can see through. Sometimes I wonder what people were thinking when they came up with these great ideas.

    Thanks for sharing!!

OMG! I need to do this immediately. Our bathroom is sort of beachy colors: soft (not baby) blue on the walls, bright white trim, wood, big sand looking tiles on the floor. I’m thinking of using bright white dishes and hot gluing some shells or rocks to the cup that makes the riser.

    TSMFS!! Great inspiration!

  • Sharon

I like that! I’ve removed everything off of my dressers and put all the makeup and perfume in my medicine cabinet. But, I’m definitely loving that!

  • Bismah

  • Judith Watson

I love DIYing things like this. Some of these are really great! It’s always good to get new ideas!

  • Karren Haller Post author

I wish I could find the book I saw years ago, making these kinds of things from dishes for cake stands or cupcakes. Cute polka dot and floral dishes make darling displays.

This is so fun!! You can always find these beautiful glass/crystal trays at the used store, Goodwill, etc. I think my mom has some that have been sitting at her antique store for a bit, I am going to suggest she turn a couple into a make up tray like this and see if that helps get them moving.

  • Karren Haller Post author

What fun your mom has an antique store, I would bet if she made a few and showed how they were used she would move a lot of dishes!!

  • Deborah D

This is very pretty. My parents redid an old vanity and gave it to my sister it is gorgeous.

  • April J Harris

  • Karren Haller Post author

Thank you for the feature April, I am honored that you would share on Hearth and Souls party, it has been a popular project. So easy to make with pretty dishes that sometimes dont get used and can be made temporarily. Have a awesome week!
