My Summer Baked Beans : Recipe 1 comment

My Summer Baked Beans for A Crowd with SAUSAGE, BEEF & BACON I had a particular recipe in mine, I wanted it to have spicey sausage, vegetables and canned beans. So I started searching for a recipe back in June, I think. I found one with just the right ingredients and went off to the store to chose the beans I would use in the recipe. Of course I had always heard good things about “Bush Brand Beans” and they had just what I was looking for. I didnt want ot use a pork and beans, their to sweet, so I picked 3 types, I decided to really work the flavors and chose Grillin Beans, (not sure if they dont fall through the grill but I) anyway, I used Bourbon and Brown Sugar, Black Bean Fiesta and Texas Ranchero!! Now hows that for not being able to make up your mind!My Summer Baked Beans for A Crowd

Ok so now to the kitchen, here’s the recipe and I will spare you all the details, the recipe does that, but I can tell you they turned out the best baked beans I have ever made, just the right amount of meat, vegetables, and all the right flavors, spiced just right with some kick. Everyone raved about them!! I had a small bowl left for lunch the next day. So there you go, make’um for Labor Day, share them with friends,
you will have plenty and they are so good made ahead!!!

My Summer Baked Beans made with Bush Brand Beans

Makes one 2 1/2 quart dish

1/2 lb. lean ground beef, sautéed and drained
1/4 lb. mild, hot or sweet Italian sausage, sautéed and drained (I used hot sausage to kick it up)
4 strips lean quality bacon cooked crisp, torn into small 1/2″ pieces, I used Kroger thick cut Bacon
1 medium onion, chopped
3 (15 oz.) cans “Bush’s Grillin Baked Beans” I used Bourbon and Brown Sugar, Black Bean Fiesta and Texas Ranchero (I wanted a variety of flavor and I like to make a signature recipe, but you could choose just one kind)
1/2 cup ketchup
2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
2 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
1 tsp. molasses
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. dry mustard
1/2 Tbsp. + 2 tsp. chili powder
2 minced cloves of garlic
1/4 cup mild or medium salsa (used Herdez)
Red Pepper Flakes to your liking.
DIRECTIONS: In large deep frying pan, sauté ground beef, sausage and onion until meats are no longer pink breaking and the onions transparent. Drain any extra oil. (But dont rinse under water that removes a lot of flavor) Stir in the remaining ingredients, except beans, well mixed.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

For the beans I “do not” remove any juice and fold beans in gently until well combined. Its a good idea to spray a 2 1/2 quart baking dish and pour beans into baking dish and cover.

Place into preheated oven, covered, I baked for 50 minutes to an hour. Stir, leave uncovered, but reduce heat to 325 degrees. Bake for another 15 minutes. Remove from oven and stir again.

Serve Hot. We served with our BBQ ribs and baked corn. Great with Corn, chicken, or to take to family parties. And a side salad such as potato, pasta salad, cole slaw, or fruit salad.

Crock Pot: You could easily adapt this recipe by cooking in a crockpot for about 3 hours.

My Recipe was adapted from Blue Ribbon Baked Beans
