The banana peppers have other popular names such as banana chilis or yellow wax peppers. These medium sized peppers belong to the family of chili peppers which will leave a tangy and mild taste in your mouth.

Bright yellow is their typical color. However, they could vary from green to deep orange once they ripen. The basic feature of banana peppers is that they are not too hot like other kinds. The more peppers are mature, the more they are sweet.

Stuffed Banana Peppers

Ingredients

Before starting cooking stuffed banana peppers, you the following list of important ingredients. Please be informed that this recipe is for 8 servings that will take you approximately 2 hours to cook the whole meal.

  • Banana peppers. According to how many people in your family to choose the average quantity. To enhance the taste, you should choose sweet banana peppers.
  • Butter
  • Chopped onion
  • Chopped celery
  • Crushed tomatoes
  • Tomato sauce: You could buy canned tomato sauce in supermarkets. However, I make that sauce by tomatoes that I grow in my back garden
  • Minced cloves garlic
  • Dried basil
  • Oregano
  • Salt
  • Crushed black pepper
  • 1 egg
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Italian sausage (hot and mild)
  • Breadcrumbs

Instructions

Step 1

You need to cut the tops of peppers off and then remove their seeds and ribs. Next, chop them up into edible portions and set aside. Take a huge bottle of salted water and bring it to the boil.

Step 2

When the water is boiled, quickly add the chopped peppers, reduce to the medium heat and then simmer until they are beautifully tender but firm within around 5 minutes. Set them aside after draining.

Step 3

Use a medium frying pan to heat butter. Fry the peppers, celery, and onion quickly in a little hot fat until they become tender. This process will take you approximately 3 to 5 minutes.

Step 4

Thoroughly stir that mixture into tomato sauce, garlic and crushes tomatoes. Season with dried oregano, salt (1 ½ teaspoons), black pepper (1/4 teaspoon). Next, simmer them (uncovered) within 10 minutes. Remember to preheat your oven (up to 175 degrees Celsius or 350 degrees Fahrenheit)

Step 5

Use a big mixing bowl to combine salt (1 teaspoon), pepper (1/4 teaspoon), 1 egg, Parmesan cheese, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix them with mild sausage, hot sausage, tomato sauce (1 cup), and breadcrumbs

Step 6

Take a sausage stuffer to fill peppers with the prepared meat mixture. Arrange them in a casserole dish. After that, pour the rest tomato sauce combination over the peppers. Last, bake those peppers (uncovered) in your preheated oven within 1 hour.

Wait until the ‘ting’ sound and your stuffed banana peppers are ready to serve!
