Does the home that once seemed cozy suddenly make you feel like the walls are closing in? There are Easy Tips to Make Your Space Appear Bigger. Your walls are definitely not moving, but quarters naturally feel cramped once you have kids. There are decorating tips you can use to make your space feel and look larger. Even if you plan on moving in the future, you should not have to feel cramped until then.

Remove Clutter – In a small space, unnecessary elements make a room appear really cluttered. There could be a pile of toys on the floor and a few blankets on the sofa, and you probably wouldn’t even notice, but in a small room these things can look like they are swallowing the space.

Link Adjacent Spaces – If your living room touches a hallway or the dining room, use the same paint color or theme in both. It will make it appear as though it is all one big room.

Downsize Furniture – The bigger your furniture is the smaller your room will appear to be. You may love that oversized sectional, but if you can’t walk through without hitting the coffee table with your skin then maybe it is not a good fit. Streamlined furniture is much more practical. Also, consider using pieces that serve a double purpose. For example, skip the coffee table and opt for an ottoman that opens. This gives you a table, extra seating, and a place to store blankets and remotes.

Decorate with Mirror – Due to their reflective nature, mirrors have the unparalleled ability to trick the eye into believing the room is much bigger. This is especially true if you have mirrors positioned where they can reflect natural light coming through the windows.

Create a Focal Point – Some are under the impression that only large rooms need a focal point. This is definitely not true. A small room needs one, too, but it has to be thoughtfully picked. Something too bold or large can dwarf a room, but something too small or not exciting enough will just get lost in the landscape with other knickknacks. Mirror wall fountains are ideal. First, this is the best way to incorporate mirror into your space. Second, cascading water creates the perfect focal point for any room, because it attracts attention and calms the mind simultaneously. Third, since it is mounted on the wall, you don’t have to try to come up with extra floor space. Online stores like IndoorFountainPros.com make it easy for you to find just the right one for your home..

We all have a room we wish were larger, what room is yours and how did you change it?

That was a really great post and I am so glad I found it! Thank you for taking the time to put this post together and share it with the blog world! I always have a hard time in my small spaces and it gets frustrating most of the time. I end up throwing everything away and starting fresh when I get sick of trying to find places for things to go lol. This was very helpful and I will be sharing it on group boards on pinterest for you!! 🙂
hope you had a great memorial day!

Hi Jessica, Glad you enjoyed the article, Im with you, we can only put so much into a closet, then we have to purge. Our community is getting ready for a Rummage Sale so it a good opportunity to let someone else have what has been packed in the closet I have not used “forever”. And the proceeds go to help a women’s and kids shelter.

Thanks for coming by, hope you can join us for Wordless Wednesday this week.
    Have a great day!!
