3 Most Common Skin Problems in 2017

The skin is the largest part of the human body. It protects us from harmful organisms and helps us feel things. It is also exposed to various elements every day that can cause irritation and different skin problems. Redness, swelling, itching, and burning sensations are just some of the symptoms you may experience to indicate that you have a skin problem. And because the symptoms are similar, it is important that you do your research and consult a dermatologist to know how to deal with it.

Here are the three most common skin problems.

1-Acne. This is a common skin disorder that is experienced by most people, starting from your teenage years and even into adulthood. Acne develops when the hair follicles and oil glands of your skin are blocked. This skin problem is not limited to pimples but can also include blackheads and whiteheads, papules, cysts, and nodules. Creams, gels, and washes are often used to treat acne. In severe cases, medication may be given to control acne.

2-Eczema. Eczema is also known as atopic dermatitis and is commonly seen in infants and children. This is where the skin becomes inflamed or irritated. Rashes are a typical indicator that you have eczema. This often appears on the face, scalp, or in the creases and folds of the skin. Be on the lookout for dry, scaly, and itchy skin. Although there is no known cure, some children outgrow it while there are others who experience it until adulthood. Eczema is also common in people who have allergies and is believed to be caused by one’s genes, the environment, and the immune system. To control the symptoms, topical steroids, creams, and medication are often used.

3-Hives. Hives are also known as urticaria. This is identifiable by welts or the red, raised, and itchy areas of your skin. They can appear on any part of your body and may look like large insect bites. Medication, food, bug bites or stings, stress, illnesses, and even wearing tight clothes often cause them to appear. They tend to go away after two to four hours. However, there are cases where hives last for several months or years. Although this will go away on its own, you need to seek medical attention if it already covers a large area of your body or if your breathing is affected. The common treatment for hives includes antihistamines and avoiding whatever triggers them to appear.
