The Strangest and Most Fun Things to Do in California

California is a state that is absolutely teeming with history and interesting things to see. Now, most people stay on the beaten path when it comes to visiting a state in the US. California has some truly unique sites that you won’t find anywhere else in the world. From the sunny beaches that are known for their incredible surf quality to the ancient, haunting, foggy forests of redwoods, the “Golden State” has a lot to offer you if you are down for an adventure. According to ifonly.com, even driving down the highways and interstates of the state are life-changing.

Redwood National Park

Redwood National Park

Redwood National Park is one of the most memorable parts of the state of California. It is known for the beautiful woodland that extends across a huge area of the state. It borders the coastline in certain places too and has rivers and streams flowing through the park. The Redwoods are also the oldest trees in the whole country, growing to incredible heights over hundreds of years. When you go to the national park, you enter a new world where you are one with nature.

There is a huge variety of fauna within the park, stretching along the coast too. Many of these are rare species, and some of them are endangered. You should definitely take a walk through this massive forest if you have a day to spare here. Relax and be awed by the sheer majesty of nature. These are some of the tallest trees on the entire planet, after all. If you want to drive instead, you can go down the Coastal Drive and still enjoy the woods too.

Check Out General Sherman

General Sherman, unfortunately, isn’t an old, cranky, bearded general left over from a forgotten war. Instead, this is the name that has been bestowed upon a species of Giant Sequoia tree found in one of California’s other national parks, the Sequoia National Park. Located in the Giant Forest, so named because of its massive trees, this one is one of the biggest trees in the whole world. The tree is almost 300 feet in height and is thought to be about 2700 years old making it one of the oldest trees in the world too.

Death Valley

Death Valley Sliding Rock

Death Valley got its name because anyone venturing into it would probably not venture out again. It is known to be one of the most naturally hostile parts of the earth. However, there is a unique beauty to the valley as well. It is one of the hottest parts of the whole of the continental US, with record temperatures hitting about 134 Fahrenheit in Furnace Creek.

This is apparently the hottest temperature of air the earth has ever seen, hence the name given to the creek. If you go to Death Valley, stay in the shade at all times and only visit early in the morning when it is cooler. Always put on the sunscreen too, if you don’t want to come out looking like you just got barbecued.
