So let’s check out this recipe below and make this refreshing, natural beverage available at home all the time.

Recipe for Homemade Apple Juice

Ingredients

  • 18 pieces of apple
  • Sugar
  • Cinnamon (optional)

What You Will Need:

  • Large stock pot or kettle
  • Fine mesh colander

Step by Step:

Step 1: Collect apples

Unfortunately, commercial apples are ranked number one for being the most pesticide-polluted crop and the side effects of pesticides on our health can be crazy! So I suggest that you pick one from your garden, or get some from your local farmer’s market to make your homemade apple juice recipe more nutritious.

If you’re quite not sure what variety of apple to use, you can check out these four best apples for juicing. There are also some helpful tips to find the best one!

Step 2: Clean them up

Wash the apples carefully and check out for bad crops that need to be discarded.

Step 3: Cut them into smaller slices

Cutting the apples into smaller slices will let you break them down quickly when you cook them later. Look also for any blemished or bruised part and discard it.

You don’t have to peel or core the apples; you can extract lots of flavor and juice from it!

Step 4: Cook the apples

It’s time for you to cook the apples! Place the fruit into a large stock pot or kettle. Then add enough water to just cover them. Don’t put too much as it will only dilute the juice. Don’t worry if the juice may appear to be a bit strong; it’s very much easier to dilute the juice with additional water instead of trying to make the flavor stronger.

Now cover the pot and simmer on medium high for about 20 to 25 minutes or until the apples break down and turn out to be soft. Remove the lid once in a while and squish the apple by using a potato masher to soften it quickly.

Step 5: Strain and Filter

Take note that you have to do this by batch. Now, transfer the first batch of apple mash into a fine mesh colander and place over a bowl. Use a spatula to ladle the mash from side to side and get as much juice as possible. Don’t throw away the apple mash; you can use it for another recipe like the Sausages with Apple Mash Recipe.

When you are done collecting your juice, you can filter it to produce an ever clearer liquid. There are various ways to do this; the easiest way is to put a coffee filter of a piece of clean cloth in the fine mesh colander. Repeat the process as many times as you like until you get your desired pulp-free juice.

Step 6: Adjust the sweetness

It’s now time to check the taste of your juice. Place the filtered apple juice into a clean pot and simmer it on low.

How sweet do you want it to be? Do you want it too tart? Then add sugar and whisk until it has dissolved. Add it gradually and keep on checking the taste until you get the preferred sweetness. If you want it unsweetened, then skip the sugar!

Is the flavor too strong? Then add a little water to weaken the flavor.

You can also add cinnamon for a soothing scent; cinnamon comes with health benefits too!

Final Thought!

You now have your homemade apple juice recipe. You can preserve it if you want by canning or freezing. And drink it whenever you want to!
