Garage Organization and Cleaning

Have you been planning a garage cleaning but have been postponing it because you just do not want to do it? Buckle up, because you can not postpone it forever. No one likes organizing and cleaning their garage but if you just take the time to do it once and maintain the order you will not have future problems. It is all up to you. I have planned an upcoming garage cleaning and organization as well, so why don’t we do it together? I have made a plan on how to do it and it can help you too. So clear your schedule for the weekend and lets get to work.

Organization in garage

First things first, you need to get all the big items out of your garage – cars, bikes, scooters, and anything related. Then take a look at the boxes you have there – are there in good condition, keep them if not throw them away. Then take a look at everything you have in there, separate your tools in three categories – throw out, give away or keep. Leave only the ones you will be keeping in the garage.

When you have taken the big things out of your garage and have thrown out the trash you can begin the cleaning process. Get the vacuum cleaner and go through every inch of the floor, get rid of cobwebs as well. Clean behind and under boxes, tables, what have you. Mop quickly so you get rid of stains of spilled liquids. Dust windows and windowsills, shelves, table, etc. Easy-garage-organization-and-cleaning

Then get back to organizing. If you store other things in your garage, like pet toys and accessories, Christmas or Halloween decorations, label the boxes so you know what is in them and store them in one corner.

Once you have finished with the big boxes, take a second to think about organizing your tools. I would suggest if you do not have shelves or a pegboard, simply cut in half a few gallon bottles and use their bottoms as places to store your small tools and screws. I would also suggest getting a pegboard if you do not want to deal with installing storage units. A pegboard is ideal to hang small and large tools, so they do not take up space on the floor or on your workbench. Plus you get to see where everything is at a glance. Grouping items by category will make it easier to find the tool you need.

And this is pretty much what I have come up with and plan to do. I always like to start with the big things and get them out of my way first, clean quickly as good as I can, and then get to the details and small stuff. I rather waste my time arranging screws, paint brushes, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc.

I hope you try this system and I hope it works for you too. Make it your goal to never let your garage get to the same chaotic state. When you are done and you like the result, pat yourself on the back.
