Entertain in Your Outdoor Kitchen 11 comments

How would it be to have a kitchen in the outdoors, and extension of your home and a great place to entertain.
Entertain in Your Outdoor Kitchen There are few things better than spending a warm summer evening with your friends and loved ones while sharing a meal, some stories and of course, a few laughs. While this is certainly an enjoyable activity, not everyone has the ideal space for outdoor entertaining, let alone outdoor meal preparation. Creating the perfect outdoor kitchen may seem like a difficult undertaking, but with a little effort and some shrewd planning, you can design more than a kitchen, you can create a space that allows you to relax and enjoy yourself.

Consider Your Budget
Perhaps the most important aspect to consider when beginning an outdoor kitchen project is your budget. If there is not enough money in the budget for the raw materials necessary, there is no point in designing an “outdoor kitchen” that rests on an expansive and multi-layered wooden deck and is shaded by a large and ornate pergola. There are, of course, ways to cut down on costs and still create an impressive outdoor kitchen, but the budget must be the first consideration. Think about the materials that you will use, the furniture you will select and the time you will need to get the job done right.

Evaluate Desired Style and Practicality
When you design an “outdoor kitchen”, not only do you have to take your budget into consideration, but you also must take the elements into account. You have to use materials that can withstand the varied weather conditions that occur throughout the course of the year. A wooden dining table, for example, should be made of wood materials that are water-resistant and durable. A kitchen island will require brick or natural stone countertops, or, if tile is to be used, a latex grout that can handle both freezing and thawing. Once you narrow the materials down to those that can withstand the elements outside, then you can consider your own personal style in creating your perfect outdoor kitchen.

Decide on a Focal Point
When you design your outdoor kitchen, you want to make sure that you choose an ideal focal point. An outdoor fireplace is often a great option, and it can also double as a wood-burning oven. Perhaps you want the focus to be drawn to the dining area, so the use of a living redwood table that includes succulents as its centerpiece may be an excellent option. Fire pits are also quite popular, and there are a wide variety of styles available.

Think About How Your Space Will Most Often Be Used
Before you commit to any design, think about how you are most likely to use your outdoor living space. If you frequently entertain large groups, then you should make sure that your outdoor kitchen accommodates a sizable group. Similarly, if your gatherings are mostly intimate, you can invest a bit more on the features that you include as opposed to the size of the space you create.
