On the top of the list is to tour a Saddlebred Horse Farm. The one hour tour is by appointment only. You’ll be taken to the coral to watch a real training session as the horse trains. In addition, you get to tour grounds and if traveling in the spring, you might get to pet a new-born foal. Salute to Kentucky Bourbon in Bardstown

Bardstown, known as the Bourbon Capital of the World, is just 41 miles from downtown Louisville.  The draw is the spirit of the distilleries. There you can sample different Bourbons and take a vintage train ride back to yesteryear. Go to the Civil War Museum, trendy restaurants, and endless caves.

The tie to Abraham Lincoln is strong. His father built a log cabin in the heart of Elizabethtown at Freeman Lake. Another place to visit would be the Schmitt Coca Cola Memorabilia Museum or the Swope Cars of Yesteryear. There the history of the change from a horseless carriage to automobiles is detailed. Elizabethtown is 42 miles from Louisville and worth the trip.

Scenic Bluegrass Lexington-Racehorse Champions

If you want to take a day trip, about 75 miles, go to Lexington, Kentucky. Located in the scenic Bluegrass Region, it is the best place to raise a champion racehorse, don’t miss a visit to Thoroughbred Park. The park is 2.5 acres of walking trails and has a limestone track. Continue on the trail to view 13 life-size horse sculptures and 42 plaques.
