5 Tips on Making Your Home More Relaxing 2 comments

It’s one thing to own a house. It’s another thing to turn into a home worth living in. There’s something about home that makes people relax and feel comfortable. The living room is typically the space that most people congregate in. It’s the perfect place to relax, watch television and entertain guests. In order to make it the best it can be, consider trying these decor tips. 5 Tips on Making Your Home More Relaxing

1. Paint
When you add paint, it’s one of the easiest ways to make a major impact in a room. Before deciding which paint color you’ll use, consider the color scheme. Make sure to choose a color is complementary to the theme. When it’s time to pick out a paint type, remember that a good wall primer forgives many structural sins. Matte paint is also a lot easier to apply for a nice, polished look. High-gloss paint tends to pick up any imperfections in the paint strokes. If you’re really committed to the high-gloss look, consider hiring a professional to take care of the actual job.

2. Luxe Fabrics and Colors
Luxurious fabrics and colors add texture and depth to a room. Consider adding these elements in various ways. Decorative pillows are great for adding texture. Purchase a few sequined-pillows. Add a fur-covered blanket in a basket for when it’s time to cuddle and watch a movie. Choose fun colors for vases, lampshades and picture frames. If you’re not in love with the overall look of one of the pieces, they’re small enough that they can be switched out with another option.

3. Statement Pieces
Wall art and large area rugs are the two best items to make a major statement in a room. There are tons of online art curators with beautiful artwork to choose from. You can get your favorite piece, frame it and have it shipped to you. This is an awesome and convenient option. Rugs are major because they can easily fill up the space beneath you. It doesn’t matter if you have hardwood floors, tile or carpet, it’s a good idea to get a nice area rug. It’ll transform the overall feel of the room and make it cozier.

4. Window Treatments
Most people install blinds and leave the windows alone. Instead, it’s a great idea to hang curtains and install Next Day Blinds behind them. Not only does this secure your personal privacy, it’s also a great way to keep the cold air out during the winter. For the cooler months, use a heavier curtain in a fabric like velvet. During the warmer months, a sheer or lighter fabric is always nice. The contrast between the blinds and curtains is a fun element to enhance. Consider various Next Day Blinds shades instead of always choosing the standard white blinds. Wooden finishes and other muted colors are great choices to consider.

5. Living Elements
Sure, green plants are easy on the eyes. They’re also really good for the environment. Indoor plants are excellent for cleansing the air in any room. Whether you choose a potted plant or an indoor tree like a fiddle leaf fig, always remember to take good care of them so that they’ll stay alive. If you don’t have a green thumb, there are a few tricks you can implement so that the plant care goes on autopilot. Also, fresh flowers make a lovely centerpiece and they’re easy to pick up from the store with your groceries.

Decorating a new house is an exciting experience for many. The ability to express your personality through your decor is a lot like getting dressed. Make sure to put your best foot forward with this process. After all, you have to live in it.

A paint color can change a space up so much. My built-in bookshelf in my living room used to be a sea green color when we first bought our house. I painted the shelf a dark charcoal grey color. It changed the overall look of the shelf and I think it looks way better than before.
