As your family grows, you will probably find that your home starts to feel much smaller. You don’t necessarily have to move to find new space for your family members and their belongings. Instead of spending time and money moving into another home, try these four ways to add space to your home.
Get Rid of Useless Clutter
Most people accumulate clutter that they could easily eliminate from their homes. If you haven’t used an item within the last two years, you probably won’t use it again. Consider donating it to a local charity or selling it in a yard sale.
If you have some high-value items that you need to get rid of, you can even sell them at consignment stores or online. What’s better than making a little money while clearing up some space in your home?
Use Multi-Function Furniture With Storage Space
Even after getting rid of unwanted items, you may still have a tough time finding places to store all of your belongings. Instead of filling your closets, store your belongings in multi-function furniture such as hollow ottomans and tables with built-in drawers.
If buying new furniture doesn’t fit into your budget, you may be able to use your current furniture more efficiently. Sometimes you only need to purchase a few baskets to transform a piece of regular furniture into an item that doubles as storage space.
Install a Ductless Heating and Cooling System
The heating and cooling ducts installed behind your walls can take up a lot of room. If you’re planning to remodel a part of your house, remove those ducts and install a ductless heating and cooling system. Depending on what type of ducts you currently have, you could add a foot or more to each room.
In addition to saving space, a ductless heating and cooling system could help you save money. Instead of turning on a large HVAC system that serves every room in the house, you only need to run the heating or air conditioning in the rooms you use.

Karen, these are great ideas to add space. I’m in the process now of cleaning up the clutter & I’m loving the extra space already. An overdue job for sure. I literally didn’t have room to put out Christmas decorations! It was that bad. And I’m a person that always hated clutter
HI Florence, I too could sure use some cleaning out and I could use some of these ideas as well.
