You also want to make sure that the ring would fit in with her everyday life and that it would not impede on her work or lifestyle. 1 Don’t close the possibility of using an heirloom ring – if you are having a hard time choosing a ring, then consider using a ring that has been passed down in your family. Of course, this choice would depend on how well you know your loved one. You need to know if she would appreciate the sentiment that goes with a ring that belonged to someone in your family. While there are those who would like a new ring, there are still many who appreciate getting a ring that belonged to your grandmother or mother. Just make sure that you get it resized and take it for jewelry repair in case it has been discolored or some stones have become loose.

2 Set a budget – this is important. Set your budget before you start ring shopping. If you don’t set a limit to how much you will spend when you go to the jewelry store, you may get enticed by the many options and choose one that is way beyond what you should spend. Remember that there is still a wedding to plan, and that would require you to spend some big bucks as well. You don’t want to start your married life loaded with debts so make sure you choose a ring that you can afford.

3 Consider her personality and lifestyle – this is a priority when choosing a ring. What are her preferences? Is she the type of person who likes simple and minimal designs? Or maybe she goes for the more ostentatious and gaudy designs. Take a look at her jewelry box and look at her present inventory. Check out the common denominator for her jewelry and look for a ring that would fit in with those. Aside from her preference, also consider her lifestyle, like her line of work. If she deals with making clothes, you may not want a ring that could get caught in the fabric.

4 Always make sure that you get the right size – it would be a shame if you propose, she says yes, and then you find out that the ring does not fit! Get one of her rings discreetly and bring it with you to the jewelry store so that you can be sure you are getting the right size.
