Practicing Self-Care Can Change Your Life 1 comment

How practicing self-care can change your life

Do you know what’s sad about this world we live in? We have so many years of education about putting others’ needs first and serving them before ourselves. The sad part is that we were not taught how to love ourselves first.

Because of this, we as a society, have developed a negative connotation about self-care. We think it’s selfish. Sometimes, we even develop insecurity to the people who practice it. For example, there are some who think that people who go to the gym are quite superficial. But have you ever felt how taking care of oneself is actually so important? Self-care is a divine responsibility. Those gym rats do not only want to look good. They also hit the gym to be healthy and that is the more significant part of working out.

Below are more examples of how practicing self-care can transform your life:

  • Self-care lets you improve your confidence and self-esteem.

A simple act of physical care like a makeover can build confidence. What you feel about your own appearance determines what you feel about yourself entirely. Just imagine how confident you would feel after a facial or a salon makeover. You have to invest in yourself, too. If you are a lady, dress and up wear some makeup. If you are a man, get some body scrub or get rid of that excessive facial hair. There is nothing wrong in rewarding yourself with a calming massage at the day spa once in awhile. However, don’t forget that practicing self-care is not limited to your physical being. It is also important to incorporate self-care into your mental and emotional being.

  • You are better able to take care of others.

Best-selling author Eleanor Brown once emphasized the importance of self-care. As the author suggests, taking time to replenish allows you to serve others from the overflow. This makes sense. After all, what will you pour from an empty cup? We tend to be so busy sometimes that we forget to take care of ourselves.

  • It lets you understand your worth as a person

You are not everyone’s cup of tea and that is okay. In this life, there are people who will love you regardless of your flaws while there are some who will not like you no matter how hard you try. Rather than trying to please everyone, stick with the people who truly understand you. Loving yourself first also applies to romantic relationships. Don’t be caught up in the trend of finding the perfect one because everyone seems to have their special someone. Enjoy your life and know yourself first. Fall in love with taking care of your mind, body, spirit, and everything else will follow.

When you feel like you need a self-care plan, start with the basics. There are so many things that you can do to take care of yourself without spending a dime. Taking care of your mind can be as simple as not comparing yourself with others or reading a book. When it comes to your physical aspects, take a shower or go for a walk. You deserve the love, too.
