Your office Christmas party: one of the few nights of the year that you’re supposed to magically turn off your mild dislike for your boss and pretend that you have things in common with your co-workers other than spreadsheets. Here are some tips on how to get through it…
Make Sure You Look Great
One of the best ways to win at your yearly office Christmas party is to make sure that you look great. Look online at formal wear for women so you can find yourself the perfect dress – you could even wear it during the day before throwing on a statement necklace or a pair of heels in the evening along with freshening up your makeup to jazz yourself up a little. If you know you look good, you’ll feel much more confident.

Be A Good Conversationalist
There’s a good chance that you don’t feel as though you have anything in common with your co-workers – but chances are, they’ll be thinking the exact same thing as you. It’ll make all your lives a little easier if you present yourself as a great conversationalist who’s sincerely interested in everyone you’re talking to. Make sure that you ask a lot of questions and that you really listen to the answers. You’ll find that everyone you work with has hidden depths. This will make you like them a whole lot more on Monday morning, and it could even make you some new friends.

Don’t Drink Too Much
You may be thinking that the only way you’ll be able to get through that night is by drinking half the bowl of punch and downing most of the bottle of rum that one of your fellow cubicle workers sneaked in. But the truth is that drinking too much at your office Christmas party can often lead to embarrassing yourself – and unfortunately you will have to spend a significant amount more time with your co-workers in a much more formal setting! These will be the people who write your references and partly control the progression of your career. That means that while it’s great to get a little merry and have a couple of glasses of wine, you should make sure that you’re in control of yourself at all times.
Remember You Don’t Have To Stay All Night
Luckily, you’re under no obligation to stay at your office party all night. Remember to have an escape route planned, whether that’s downloading Uber onto your phone or making sure that you have an excuse ready if someone questions why you’re slipping out. If you’re tired or bored, graciously make your exit. Don’t make a big deal about it, but thank your boss for a great night before slipping off home.

Have A Positive Attitude
Remember to tell yourself that you’re going to enjoy your office party. If you go in with a bad attitude, there’s no way you’ll have a good time. Throw yourself into the party games and talk to everyone that you can, to create a feel-good Christmassy atmosphere and a great night for yourself!
Fab tips! I think the big one for me is always having a positive attitude – if you go to something expecting to have a bad time, chances are you’ll be proved right! #FridayFrivolity
