Matching interior and exterior design – The basics of colors and how to make them flow

Often time, people that are renovating how their house looks either on the inside or outside are interested in knowing whether or not it’s important for the two spectrum’s of a house design to somehow meet in the middle, or have some middle ground. Design can be timeless but most often times it has an expiration date. That means that interior or exterior design can become outdated and look pretty ugly after a good amount of years. This happens when paint starts to peel off or walls get yellow from cigarette smoke, things like that. Also, décor elements break and then the overall piece is incomplete.

The most important thing to keep in mind when renovating is that you want to go forward with your design. What this means is, that if for example you were renovating the exterior of your home, you shouldn’t aim to make it match with the interior when the interior is outdated. Moving forward means that you give the exterior a fresh, modern look, regardless of how it flows with the interior. You can renovate the interior afterwards to make them match, but if you’re only going through one renovation, you shouldn’t try to make them match based on the outdated design.

Mixing is important and definitely brings unity and artistic value to the property. But if it comes at the price of remaining stuck in a bleak, outdated, bland past, then it’s no longer worth it.
